Hey, everyone!
I often get asked for gift ideas for cooks and food lovers around the holidays, so I put together a list of some of my favorites.
Enjoy!
Myles
The Essentials
You can never go wrong with high-quality cookware essentials. I’ve recommended all of these in the past— well-made, long-lasting, highly versatile pieces of cookware.
Blue carbon steel skillet from Made In.
Stainless steel pan from De Buyer.
Saucier from Made In.
Butcher Block cutting board from Made In.
Cookbooks
Cookbooks make great gifts, but there are so many published each year that it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Below are a few of my time-tested favorites.
Gjelina by Travis Lett - a beautiful, timeless cookbook from one of my all-time favorite restaurants.
Six Seasons by Joshua McFadden - an encyclopedic guide to vegetables filled with incredible recipes.
The Food Lab by J. Kenji Lopez Alt - probably the cookbook I’ve learned the most from in terms of fundamentals.
Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan - a true classic that has been my bible as I dove into Italian cuisine this year.
Mission Chinese Food by Danny Bowien - a cookbook that reads like a book from one of my favorite chefs.
Some Random Favorites
Gestura Spoons
I bought myself a Gestura spoon this year, and I’m a bit obsessed with it. It’s got a long handle, a large bowl that’s perfect for basting or serving, a deep well to cradle liquid, a pointed tip for pouring, and the well measures exactly 1 tbsp. I’m a big fan of everything Gestura makes, but this spoon in particular is perfect.
I’ve also written extensively about my love for Gray Kunz spoons, and this gold version makes for a great gift.
Suncraft Everything Knife
I use this knife all the time these days. It’s like a paring knife, a steak knife, and a bread knife had a baby. Super sharp, super versatile.
Zero Japan Salt Box
I firmly believe everyone should own a salt cellar— I talked about this extensively in my salt guide. This one from Zero Japan is great— it’s a good size, looks nice, and it has a handle and a flip top for easy access.
Stocking Stuffers
Thermapen - the best meat thermometer on the market.
Vera Salt - the best salt out there (now with flaky salt, too).
Anything from Burlap & Barrel - my favorite brand for super high-quality, fresh spices.
Coffee from Sey Coffee - the company consistently roasting some of the best coffee I’ve ever had.
Any of these one-of-a-kind condiments from Noma Projects.
Amazing balsamic vinegar from Villa Manodori.
Myles, do you have a suggestion for an angles wooden spatula? We had one - great for eggs and veggie sauteing. For the life of me, I don't know what happened to it. Thanks for a helpful gif guide!
Thanks Myles. Always enjoy your content and your influence is all over my kitchen setup and pantry!
